Detailed Tour Descriptions
Carefully researched and proven tour routes providing breathtaking views and scenery, notable break points and exciting riding, while allowing for the highest level of guest safety possible. If the group includes riders of a wide range in age or physical fitness, ABT will customize the tour to accommodate all participants. All tours may be shortened, given various start points. With coach support, riders wanting a shorter or less strenuous ride can join the tour in progress at a designated point, or cut a ride short if they tire.
The Big Horn Descent (Bike & Hike)

Two tours in one! The standard version of this popular ABT adventure includes a lengthy stop at The Living Desert for a self-guided walking tour or a guided hike to Eisenhower Mountain.
"Wow!!! What a view!!!" Starting near the Palm Desert Visitor Center, with its panoramic view of the desert floor, it's a long downhill run followed by a leisurely glide through lush quiet neighborhoods to The Living Desert. Following their hike (led by knowledgeable ABT guides) or walking tour, guests are rejuvenated by a Coachella Valley Date Shake before continuing on a downhill and level tour of Indian Wells, featuring some of the most prominent addresses (and residents) anywhere. Participants will learn about the date culture of the desert, desert ecology, local sporting events and venues, and other desert trivia and history. Tour concludes at participants hotel or other designated location.
Tour Features and Characteristics:
Shortest distance, and least strenuous riding, of all standard ABT tours. Suitable for novice riders and enjoyed by experienced ones.
Riding Distance: 10-18 miles depending upon ending point.
Terrain: Paved. 97% downhill or level. One short novice climb.
Fitness/Riding Level: Novice to Intermediate.
Duration: 3 1/2 - 4 hours.
Biking Only Alternative:
Tour is easily adapted by substituting a break at Ironwood Park for the Living Desert. This allows participants the opportunity for more riding time and distance, as well as a "fitness ride" breakaway group option for those wanting aerobic riding. All hiking is eliminated. Allows for optional riding distance increase to 20-25 miles.
Live at The Living Desert (Bike & Hike)

Starting from any resort/hotel in the Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage, or Indian Wells area, riders begin a gradual climb from the desert floor to The Living Desert via a scenic route. Following a self-guided walking tour or a guided hike to Eisenhower Mountain, guests are refreshed with a date shake. The biking continues with a level glide through prominent Indian Wells neighborhoods, featuring narrated stops at select locations.
Participants will learn about the date culture of the desert, desert ecology, local sporting events and venues, and other desert trivia and history. Final leg is a downhill coast and level glide concluding at the departure hotel.

Tour Features & Characteristics:
Low distance tour with gradual climbing for the first 1/3 of the ride. Riders with poor fitness may find this portion of the ride to be somewhat challenging, but remainder of riding is level or downhill.
No coach required. Tour begins and ends at the resort/hotel.
Riding Distance: approximately 15 miles.
Terrain: Paved. 35% gradual climbing, 35% downhill, 30% flat.
Fitness/Riding Level: First 1/3 of ride is a low-Intermediate level gradual climb; remaining 2/3 - Novice.
Duration: 3-4 hours.
Biking Only Alternative:
Riders preferring to ride rather than hike can be taken on an optional fitness ride adding 6-10 additional miles, and a considerably more aerobic workout, to the tour. This portion of the ride can take place while others in the group enjoy The Living Desert.
Holy Moses!! The Cove at La Quinta

One of ABT's longer and most diverse rides, this tour has something for everyone from the thrill seeker to the moderate rider. Beginning in Indian Wells or La Quinta (other locations may require coach drop-off and/or pick-up) riders are challenged by a moderate climb to the famous La Quinta Cove. Here they will take in the breathtaking view from atop the steps where Charlton Heston played Moses in "The Bible". After refreshments, competent and physically-fit riders are offered the option of an unpaved course providing a taste of true off-road mountain biking, while the others enjoy a little longer break. Reunited, riders coast downhill, through an ancient ocean bed, and on to PGA West for the second break point. The final leg is a downhill and flat run to the designated finish point (often the resort/hotel where guests are based). Gorgeous scenery; many photo ops!
Tour Features & Characteristics:
Longer ride with mixed difficulty levels, including an off-road option.
Spectacular scenery.
No coach required. Tour can begin and end at the resort/hotel.
Riding Distance: 15-28 miles without "off-road" option. Option adds up to 5 additional miles, and significantly more strenuous aerobic workout.
Terrain: Without "off-road" option, 90% paved (street and bike path riding); 10% unpaved. "Off-road" option is all unpaved and of varied roughness.
Fitness/Riding Level: Climbs are intermediate; flats and descents are novice; "off-road" option is only recommended to upper-intermediate to advanced riders.
Duration: 3 1/2 - 4 hours.
Alternative: Riding distance will vary based on start point. Guests can ride in chase vehicle for the most difficult climbing portion, then rejoin the ride.
Tour De Palm Springs

This favorite ABT tour offers planners many options to accommodate even the most diverse group. Starting from a number of select sites in or west of Rancho Mirage, or even starting portions of a group at different staging points, this tour follows miles of dedicated bike trails through as many as 3 local cities. The focus though is Palm Springs with destinations varying from the famous Indian Canyons (a bike and hike alternative), to downtown Palm Springs, or the playground of the rich and famous in the legendary South Palm Canyon neighborhoods. Riders will enjoy the stunning scenery of passing country clubs, a view of Bob Hope's "Mushroom House", and "views galore" all with our ever-present mountains as a backdrop.
Tour Features & Characteristics
The most adaptable of all ABT tours; a tried and true favorite. The Rancho Mirage to the Indian Canyons and back version allows for slightly over 30 miles of riding, comprised of 80% flat, "valley floor" riding, and 10% each in moderate climbing & descent. In contrast, riders can begin the same loop in Palm Springs, and reduce the ride to as little as 15 miles, most of which is within and around the Canyons (arguably the nicest part of the ride!). And we can even offer both of these options within the same group with the help of a following coach! The variations on this tour are simply too numerous to mention.
Riding Distance: 10-33 miles
Terrain: Paved. Overall standard long route: 80% flat; 10% novice-intermediate climbing; 10% moderate descent.
Fitness/Riding Level: Novice to Intermediate. Short advanced climbing option available on two South Palm Canyon routes.
Duration: 3-4 hours
